Ropes and Gray was using PeopleSoft HCM in combination with a third-party tool for its open enrollment process.

That approach had two shortcomings:

  • It required employees to research their benefits options in one system while making actual plan choices in another, creating aggravating delays and impacting benefits decisions.
  • The process presented users with too much information, making it hard for employees to evaluate benefits content and leading to too many calls to the HR help desk.

Unifying systems, adding benefits, wizards simplifies enrollment

InFlight applied a solution that unified the two parts of the process and added a benefits enrollment wizard that acts as a personal concierge in helping Ropes and Gray employees make complex benefits choices. The costly third-party tool was eliminated and enrollment is now done fully within PeopleSoft. The solution integrated easily with existing infrastructure and didn’t require the company to upgrade its PeopleSoft HCM to a newer version.

“We recruit the best-of-the-best attorneys here so it’s important we give them a great user experience with our internal technology,” said Elizabeth Zimmerman, senior manager of HR systems and processes at Ropes and Gray. “The InFlight solution eliminated the need for employees to have to log onto multiple sites during enrollment, made their benefits decision-making process easier, and removed a huge pain point for us.”

The new system guides employees through a series of questions with the fully-configurable wizard to identify the best benefits for their unique needs, enabling side-by-side plan comparisons. All relevant benefits information in the PeopleSoft HCM is fully integrated into the wizard.
